Concert or Workshop

African Baptist churches formed throughout Canada and the United States were the birthplace of many of the songs of liberation in the struggle since slavery for equality. These songs became widely recognized during and after the civil rights movement of the 1960's . They became the vocal and lyrical representation of the movement to end state sponsored segregation and the goal of full equality and justice. This workshop covers a range of topics through song like -anti racism (Ride on the Bus with Me) gender equity (I Black Woman) commitment to struggle (We shall Overcome), to songs that aid in organizing and disseminating information (I'm On My Way)

Concert : 45 minutes /unlimited participants
Workshop: maximum 50 people

Blues Music

This workshop/concert takes us back to the beginning of the blues --sing along and learn west+south  African and south African songs  drumming  voice for singing and hands for clapping. Then Move through the early banjo blues music of the late 1800's, to the cotton picking blues of the 20th century, slide blues, twelve bar, urban style and the folk blues of the 60's. The music of Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, E. Cotton Blues music is a base for understanding the development of North American musical styles the metaphors speaks of a realities of everyday life.

Dear Sisters  ,  thank you-  welalin - meegwitch , for   the  love  you shred  for all you have done   with  and  for  camp sis  it is  yours and all of ours . No one  can really own land or  air or water . It is in this egalitarian  equality seeking spirit that we   volunteer for  camp sis . A safe  peaceful healing space   community for   women.  We have been  very  busy this summer continuing to  see  more women  coming to   camp sis  to build camp sis  this  safe  peaceful beautiful 75  acres  owned   and run by  community  volunteers  for all women We   put in  a stove  ( propane0 were able to  do  some plumbing ( thanks  Deanne  and Junior)  build new  steps  and   put  up a gazebo and  Continue  planting organic garden and  clearing  the  roads . We  need to  continue to insulate  the second for the  sisters who will be up there in the  winter

It is a very spiritual ground with plenty of sunshine, lovely rolling meadows, old growth forest with a natural spring, beaver pond, and an organic garden. The Camp was bought in 1994 and built by Women of Colour and their women allies. MWIC is a place for healing, education, and the arts.  Non-profit fundraising has always been and remains our only source of income to pay taxes etc. The staff is made up of volunteers. It is non-profit community owned and we have built two large barn style pine buildings on the land (each building is approximately 40 x 30).  The land is COMMUNITY  OWNED organized and facilitated by the Toronto Women Of Colour Collective . The past few summers CAMP SIS has been used as a get away healing space for six nations and aboriginal women. The group would like to be able to use the CAMP all year, so this is a shout out to  make this happen.  We are looking   or monies to buy goods. Insulation for the walls and roof ,vapor barrier, tongue and groove wood to cover walls and inside roof ,propane fridge,well,  flooring furnace (pipes)  Wood stove (4 cords hardwood)  Cupboards / sleeping bags / bed frames  Solar lights....

INFO Camp SiS was founded by  MWIC   17 years  ago.  Today the- Toronto Indigenous and Women of Colour Collective  work  to give the  camp direction  It remains community owned and open to all women/trans children as a  safe space  to stay or  visit , healing arts  centre with revolutionary aims to  educate . The camp and the two buildings on it have been used over the past 17 years as a healing space for Six Nations and Aboriginal women. Our goal now is to expand the accessibility by “winterizing” the buildings to provide year round access for women.

 We  are working towards  our  dream of a  septic  system  running  water + electricity . We are located near Minden  Ontario For  more info  please contact us  at 

Making Camp SiS more accessible will require major improvements to the buildings including insulation, woodstoves, and plumbing upgrades - running water would be a dream come true. We are planning to install as many cost and energy efficient upgrades to the buildings as possible, taking advantage of solar energy for light for instance. 

We are in need of women power, labour, and donations in order to build this summer; it’s why we are seeking your support. The financial we receive will assist in purchasing materials to expand and enhance Camp SiS , making the year round access to the facility a reality for countless women.

Camp Sis is now 17 years old. It remains community owned and open to all women. The past few summers CAMP SIS has been used as a get away healing space for six nations and aboriginal women and we would to make this accessible throughout the year. This is a shout out to all who would be sisters in struggle, to make this happen.

There is a need to buy insulation, vapor barrier wood for the walls so the two buildings can be winterized and have caretaker, Doreen Silversmith, stay there. We are in need of women power, labour, and donations in order to build this summer. Please come out to support and celebrate International Women’s Month with us!

The land is organized and facilitated by the Toronto Women Of Colour Collective

Doreen Silversmith, Pamela Dogra, Patricia Allard, Lorelei King, Karen Kalle, and Faith Nolan. It is open to all women who abide by the collective mandate of justice and equality for all. Please make check payable to Multicultural Women in Concert. At present we are in process of getting back our charitable tax number.
